Who this is for and how to read it
This guide is for owners of tour, charter and adventure companies, such as boat charters, helicopter and aerial tours and guided experiences, who want more direct bookings and are deciding where to put time and money.
Each column is one way to get bookings. Read down a column to see what it takes to start, the ongoing work, what it costs if you do it yourself or hire it out, who to hire, and whether it keeps working when you stop. Every column ends in the same place: more of the right bookings.
The short answer
There are ten main ways to get more bookings. Ads, marketplaces and partner deals can send guests within weeks, but most of them stop when you stop paying or lose the relationship. Search and AI visibility, reviews and your own guest list take longer and keep working. For most established operators we recommend building the foundation first, then adding the others on top.
The ten ways, side by side
Costs and hours are general 2025-2026 industry ranges at the realistic high end, including learning time, tools and testing. They are estimates, not quotes. Ad money is paid to Meta or Google directly. Checked 2026-10-13.

Why the foundation comes first
Ads stop the moment the budget stops. Pages that rank on Google and get named by AI assistants tend to keep bringing people in.
- Most of the other columns depend on it.
- An ad needs a page that explains the trip. A hotel desk or an advisor checks your website before they send anyone. A past guest leaves a review where Google can read it. The foundation is where all of them land.
- One build serves Google and AI assistants.
- Google says there are no extra requirements or special optimizations to appear in its AI Overviews and AI Mode, beyond being indexed and eligible to show in Search. Clear pages, accurate facts and good reviews serve both.
- It takes months, so it pays to start early.
- Google says some changes take effect in hours and others take several months. That is why we plan around three to six months before the first extra inquiries.

Questions owners ask
How do I get more bookings for my tour company?
Choose from ten ways: show up on Google and in AI answers, email past guests, run Meta or Google ads, list on booking sites, partner with hotels and advisors, make video, or host a community. Start with the foundation, because it also makes the other nine work better, then add ads or partners where the numbers make sense.
What is the cheapest way to get more bookings?
Past guests and reviews cost the least in money: an email tool and a few hours a week. A Google Business Profile is free to create, according to Google. Both cost you time instead of cash. Paid ads are the fastest to start but the most expensive to keep running, because they stop when the budget stops.
How long does SEO take to bring in bookings?
Google says some changes take effect in a few hours and others take several months. For a tour or charter company we plan on about three to six months before the first extra inquiries, with the gain building after that. Nobody can promise a number of bookings, so be wary of anyone who does.
Are Viator and GetYourGuide worth the commission?
Sometimes. Viator is commonly cited at about 20% of the price and GetYourGuide at 20% to 35%, set in your own agreement. Add up twelve months of bookings per site, subtract the commission and fees, and compare with a direct booking. Keep the listings that still pay after their cut and that bring guests who did not already know you.
How do I show up in ChatGPT and other AI answers?
Google says there are no special requirements for its AI Overviews and AI Mode beyond being indexed and eligible to show in Search. In practice that means clear trip pages, accurate facts, questions answered on the page and reviews people can read. Assistants differ, so we also check ChatGPT and Claude answers by hand each month.
